Motorbike tour around the Marmolada group in the Dolomites
The famous architect Le Corbusier has defined the Dolomites
as the most beautiful natural monuments in the world, while motorcyclists define the roads in the Dolomites as the most beautiful ones to ride on a motorcycle.
And now, here you are, riding your bike along the winding roads around the Marmolada Massif Group
, nicknamed as well the "Queen of the Dolomites" thanks to its greatness and beauty. The road (pic n°1 - 2) you will take does not simply cross these majestic mountains but will wind through two of the most scenic passes in the Dolomites: the Giau Pass
(pic middle) ( Climbing up Giau pass with video animation
) and the Pordoi Pass
(pic n°3), where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas!
Are you ready? Once you have left the Brennero motorway at the exit "Bolzano Nord" (Bolzano North) you are about to enter this Italian paradise of the motorcyclists. You will ride your motorcycle at the border of the Scillar-Catinaccio Natural Park of the Dolomites where you can sight these unique mountains.
Moving closer to the Canazei, an excellent ski resort in winter, while in summer it becomes a gem set among the green of meadows and fir forests, you will be able to glimpse the imposing silhouette of the Marmolada Group.
Not far from here, you will face the hairpin bends taking you to the Fedaia Pass
, at an elevation of 2,057 meters above sea levels.
Descending, you will cross the Cordevole stream, and from here on this serpentine road will begin climbing up and will take you to the Giau Pass crossing an extraordinary natural environment. Even the descendent track after the Giau Pass is one of the most spectacular ones in the world!
It is a long stretch going down to Cortina d'Ampezzo
. This town is known as the "Pearl of the Dolomites", a famous ski resort during winter and still a tourist destination any time, visited mostly by wealthy people, international actors & actresses, and royals. So, do not miss a stop here.
After taking a short break in Cortina d'Ampezzo you will continue on your way warming up again your tires turning to the hairpins that will lead you to the Falzarego Pass
, at 2,105 meters above sea levels.
Keep on riding until the village of Pieve di Livinallongo where the long climb that will lead to the top of the Pordoi Pass begins. It will be great fun riding your motorcycle here through the tight hairpins and bends!
The Pordoi Pass, 2,239 meters above sea level, is the last step of this Dolomites ride tour, but the road going back to Bolzano is still long and full of pleasant bends and stunning views of these wonderful Italian mountains.
Drive Length: 226 km
Time: about 5 hours and 50 minutes
