Mondello: a lovely beach in Palermo, Sicily
Mondello is a charming small village, or better to say a borough of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, with a white-sand beach caressed by the transparent waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is mainly famous for its beautiful beach. Mondello is located about 11 kilometers north of the city center of Palermo and divided from it by a charming green park called Parco della Favorita and protected by mountain Monte Pellegrino and mountain Monte Gallo.

Since Mondello is so close to Palermo, its beautiful beach is almost always is quite crowded with the local people, but not only. In fact, in summer plenty of tourists from Italy and all over the world come and visit Sicily, Palermo and spend as well their holidays here.

The 1.5 kilometers long Mondello beach is made of white and fine sandy shore that gently degrades into the pristine and turquoise sea, so it is an ideal destination for swimmers but also for families with kids. From the beach you can also enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the wild vegetation, in a word, it is a small paradise with tropical colors. Also, here you can take part in many water sport activities such as jet-skiing, windsurfing and many others.

Mondello also offers some attractions to visit, among them, do not miss the many beautiful Liberty-style villas, which are considered to be the best Italian expression of the Art Noveau style. Many of these villas were built by architect Ernesto Basile, and the most famous one is Villa Caboto.

Located on a pier in the middle of Mondello bay there is an impressive Liberty-style building of the twentieth century, completely restored and called Charleston.

On the sunniest days, you may want to spend some time in the shade of the beautiful natural park of Monte Pellegrino, which hosts a great variety of local fauna, as well as a very important shrine, Santuario di Santa Rosalia, the patron of Palermo.

If you are a culture lover, instead, you should visit Zisa, a Norman castle built in the twelfth century. The imposing castle also hosts a beautiful collection of Arab artifacts.

In the town of Mondello, you can visit the Cathedral, or you can simply get lost in its streets, squares, its picturesque port or in one of the many cafes and restaurants along the seashore. You are in Sicily: tasting some fresh fish with a glass of wine, or one of the many typical Sicilian dishes is absolutely a must!

Finally, if you go to Mondello between the end of spring and the beginning of summer, do not miss the World Festival on the Beach, a sport and music festival that since 1986 has been held in this charming town.
