Majella, Gran Sasso, Laga: these are the highest and the most popular mountains in Abruzzo, a region located in the central part of Italy perfectly nestled between mountain and sea. The above-mentioned mountains are considered to be the most beautiful and spectacular ones of the whole Apennine mountain range.

Roccaraso is the most popular ski resort in Abruzzo and the largest ski area in Central Italy, as good as the most beautiful ski areas up on the northern side of the country. Thanks to the efficient links to the other ski resorts, such as Rivisondoli, Pescasseroli, Pescocostanzo, Barrea and Castel di Sangro, the resort of Roccaraso is part of a wider area, called "Comprensorio Sciistico dell'Alto Sangro e dell'Altopiano delle Cinque Miglia", offering in that way more than 150 kilometers of ski slopes and 60 kilometers of cross-country ski trails. The different resorts are linked by more than 30 modern ski lifts and are accessible by using the same ski pass.

This ski area is perfect for all level skiers, as you can easily find slopes for beginners, intermediates or advanced people. These slopes are also the stage of many national and international ski competitions and are equipped with snowmaking systems for the case the weather does not ensure a perfect snow condition. The 1000-meters difference in altitude from the town to the peak, called Toppe del Tesoro, allows people enjoying long and articulated slopes, as well as an awe-inspiring view of the charming surroundings.

In Roccaraso, a beautiful ice rink will be the perfect place for taking the sun while skating. If you are willing to try other sports, the wide ski area is equipped with two snow parks, a children area with a playground, and many other areas for different activities: snow tubing, sledding and bobsledding, snow-racket walks, stationary biking on the snow, Nordic walking, snow kite, and heliski.
