Let's start visiting Taormina first, this elegant town and summer resort which is a well-known luxury tourist destination in Sicily. It is located in a position of astonishing beauty on the slope of a mountain overlooking the Ionian sea and Mount Etna. Its crystal-clear sea waters, pic middle, stunning views and landscapes, mild climate, white sandy beaches, and the kindness of its inhabitants make Taormina a small paradise.

Now you can head to Mount Etna. As you will see, reaching the top of Volcano Etna is not as complicated as reaching the top of a mountain in the Alps. However, you will need to hire a guide and wear appropriate outfits. Once arrived at the top of Volcano Etna, you will enjoy an indescribable and absolutely stunning panoramic view! It is also possible to have a look inside the crater and watch what a real, active volcano looks like.

So, take the highway in the direction of Catania through the village of Giardini di Naxos, a smart, well-known sea resort. When reached Catania turn towards the town of Belpasso and then to Nicolosi, from here get the direction towards 'Rifugio Sapienza' (Sapienza hut).
"Rifugio Sapienza" (Sapienza hut) is the highest place, (it is 1.910 meters a.s.l.) you can reach by your own car on the slopes of Mount Etna. Here, there is a cableway (pic n°4) that takes you to the altitude of about 2500 meters. (otherwise, there are some 4wd you can take). When you will get up, there will be some special cars waiting for you and will take you to an upper level. The latest part, about 350 vertical meters, is to be done on foot. (pic n°5)
About volcano Mount Etna: with its 3.350 meters of height, it is the highest and the most dangerous European volcano, as its highly disruptive eruptions (pic n°6) have demonstrated that during the centuries. Mount Etna looks like a giant, white-caped cone that overlooks the Ionian sea. It is over 40 km wide on a surface of 1265 km2 and with a perimeter of about 135 km.

The land on the slopes of Volcano Etna is very fertile and the whole area is intensively cultivated. Vineyards, orange groves, orchards, and olive trees are part of the landscape. Wine, pistachios, and honey are among the best-known products in the area. The wines from Etna have a good reputation, because of their flavors that are unique owing to the volcanic nature of the land where the grapes are grown.
