Piedmont is located in the north-western part of Italy, bordering Switzerland and France. It offers various landscapes. On three sides it is surrounded by high mountains such as the Alps and the Apennines.

In the middle, the land changes into sunny and sweet hilly areas like the famous wine producing areas of the Langhe and the Monferrato with a succession of hills covered with vineyards and dotted with villages and castles. Many worldwide-known famous Italian red Wines as the Barolo Wine (known also: the 'king of wines and the wine of kings'), Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Gavi and many others come from these beautiful hills, but, do not forget about 'Asti Spumante', the renowned sparkling sweet white wine is also produced here.

The great Po Valley stars from here up to the Adriatic Sea. The Po, which is the longest river in Italy rises in Piedmont, in Monviso (the Cottian Alps). The lake district includes some beautiful lakes such as Lake Maggiore, which is the second largest lake in Italy, Lake Orta and Lake Mergozzo.

Food: two categories of old traditions meet here, the noble and rich one of the Court of Savoy like the chocolate, the egg flip, the 'Bollito misto' (boiled mixed meat) or the 'Fritto misto' (fried mixed meat) and the 'poor' one of the local peasants like 'Bagna Caöda', or the 'Finanziera'.
Today the 'Cuisine of Piedmont' is one of the most sophisticated and appreciated: countless started dishes, delicious pasta like 'agnolotti' and superb desserts like the famous 'Panna cotta'. And, do not forget the truffles: 'Fondue with truffles', just one of the many dishes.
