Campania is located in the south-western Italy and it is bordered to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its beautiful coast stretches over 350 km from the mouth of the Garigliano Sapri up in the Gulf of Polocastro.
Campania is rich in culture, music, archeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Paestum. The mysterious loved and feared Vesuvius dominates Naples, the capital of Campania.
You should not miss: Sorrento, a small town overlooking the Bay of Naples; the natural beauty of the worldwide famous Amalfi Coast and the two real pearls in the Bay of Naples: Capri and Ischia islands. Ischia is the largest one and it is considered to be the most beautiful, but somehow Capri is more famous.
Food & Wine: Campania's top wines come from the area of Irpinia hills, near Naples. 'Taurasi' is a full-bodied red wine that requires aging. 'Fiano di Avellino' is a leading dry, white wine and unlike the other white wines requires five to six years aging. 'Greco di Tufo' is crisp and intensely fruity. 'Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio' (the tears of Christ) comes from the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius.
Naples is the 'native city' of the real Italian 'Pizza', and 'Spaghetti'. Also, many sweet dishes come from here, including Gelato (the fruit-based ice cream). Just some of the great variety of dishes the cuisine of Naples offers: of course 'Pizza' (it is a must eat), 'Parmigiana di Melenzane' (fried eggplant, tomato sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan and basil), 'Gnocchi alla Sorrentina', 'Cozze alla marinara', (Mussels - another must eat), 'Baba' (little cakes soaked in a rum or limoncello based syrup but also sliced and filled with cream)
