Aosta Valley is the smallest Italian region, it stretches between the French and the Swiss borders. This is a land of high mountains, just think about Mont Blanc the highest mountain in Europe whose peak is in France but a part of this massif is here.

You can enjoy anywhere beautiful landscapes: we could mention many places such as Valley Ayas, surrounded by thick woods, Valtournenche which culminates in the 3140 meters high peak of Matterhor which is, thanks to this majestic mountain, one of the most beautiful places in the Alps.

Aosta Valley is a real paradise for skiers in winter and for trekking lovers in summer. Today this small region is an important tourist center with many remarkable ski resorts like Courmayeur, Champoluc, Monterosa, Gressoney, La Thuile, Cervinia and many others.

In the past, for over two thousand years it has been the crossroad of different people and cultures, in fact, even the ancient Romans were crossing here the passes of Piccolo San Bernardo and Gran San Bernardo. After the Roman Empire was over numerous medieval and Renaissance castles were built on the slopes of Aosta Valley mostly for military purposes or as a sort of check-points. These castles today are real historical and cultural heritage.

Going up the valley you will find Aosta, the capital city of this region, an ancient Roman town rich in history. You can visit the Augusta Pretoria (the old Aosta), the great Arch of Augustus and the Roman Theatre. Past Aosta you will be about to climb up to the first slopes of Mont Blanc, where a cable car service takes tourists over the clouds.
