Friuli-Venezia Giulia is located on the northern-eastern side of Italy, and its culture is strongly influenced by the proximity with Slovenia and Austria.

This makes the region a microcosm of different cultures, traditions and historical influences. Such a variety is also clear from a natural point of view: impressive mountain landscapes to the north, dominated by the Carnia and Julian Alps, the majestic Carso plateau with its rocks and the tens of caves produced by erosion, a variegated coastline, scattered with many lagoons, rocky and sandy beaches, whose main town is Lignano Sabbiadoro.

The colors and the breathtaking views of the Dolomites are worth a visit in every season of the year, as well as all the main cities of the region: Trieste is rich in culture-friendly attractions, Gorizia has a beautiful Medieval castle, while Udine, Pordenone and the smaller Grado and San Daniele are charming places where to spend some time. Do not miss the UNESCO site of Aquileia, a perfect emblem of the Roman Empire and the Christian art.

Food & Wine: the cosmopolitan atmosphere of this region is found in its cuisine as well. Of great importance are some cold cuts, especially the well-known San Daniele Ham or Sauris smoked ham, as well as cheeses, like Montasio. There are also good meat-based dishes, such as porcina, made with sausages, boiled pork meat, mustard, and sauerkrauts. Gubana is a typical cake eaten on feast days, made with pastry and dried fruit. Do not forget to taste the local wines: Tocai, Malvasia, Ribolla, Verduzzo, Refosco.
