Lombardy is located in northern Italy at the foot of the Alps, bordering Switzerland. Its central position, being located in the heart of the Po Valley and on the path of the great transalpine routes, is remarkable.

It is the richest and most important region of Italy and the industrial and commercial center of the country. Also, the Fashion Industry has its headquarter here. In Milan, the capital of Lombardy, all the worldwide appreciated Italian 'Haute Couture' brands have their fantastic showrooms.

Lombardy is a land of mountains, hills, rivers and beautiful lakes. The lake district includes Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano (shared with Switzerland), Lake Como, Lake Iseo, Lake Idro, and the beautiful Lake Garda (the largest lake in Italy).

Food & Wine: Many delicious wines are produced in the lakeside areas and in the Oltre Po area. Some of these are: Franciacorta Spumante (DOCG) (sparkling wine), Garda Chardonnay Spumante (sparkling wine), Capriano del Colle (red wine), Botticino (red wine), Valtellina Superiore Riserva (DOCG) (red wine), Moscato di Scanzo (DOCG) (red wine), Capriano del Colle (white wine)

Many culinary specialties as well: 'Riso alla Milanese' (rice with saffron - first course), Tortelli di zucca alla mantovana' (stuffed also with amaretti di Saronno and apple sauce), Polenta alla valtellinese', 'Ossobuco alla milanese'(cross-cut veal), Cotoletta alla milanese (fried cutlet), the famous 'Panettone' (Christmas cake)
